William James DUKE

William James DUKE passed after a short illness on Dec. 13th 2016 in Ottumwa, Iowa (note: in Wapello Co., IA), he was 71.

William "Bill" James DUKE was born the 4th of July, 1945 in Arlington, NJ, the son of Carroll Leon (Joe) and Florence Louise LEWIS DUKE.

He grew up in Montpelier, Vermont and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1963. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont, and a Masters degree from the University of Minnesota. He attended the University of Iowa where he received a Ph.D.

James worked for IBM of Vermont before becoming a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. He was an exceptional teacher, also a writer and musician and spent the rest of his life in the pursuit and sharing of a spiritual life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by a brother, Jeffrey Lewis DUKE of Burlington, Vermont and a cousin Susan LEWIS of Steep Falls, Maine. James also leaves behind many dear friends from all over the planet.

A memorial service was held Friday Dec 16th at Behner Funeral Home with a reception at the home of Catherine Castle of Fairfield, Iowa.

Donations may be made to the hospice of one's choice.
