Wednesday, August 31, 1921WILLIAM K. LUTZ
William K. LUTZ was born in West Maryland county, Pennsylvania, Aug. 27, 1838, and passed away at his home in Eldon, Aug. 22, 1921, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Mr. LUTZ came to Iowa with his parents in the early 40's and settled on a farm near Libertyville, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Elizabeth MILLER in Fairfield on Sept. 6, 1865, she having preceded him in death on July 25, 1918.
To this union were born fifteen children, all of whom are now living with the exception of two infant daughters, a son Basil, who died in 1905, and a daughter, Mrs. Laura BROWN, who passed away in 1920.
About thirty years ago Mr. LUTZ united with the Brethren church near Batavia, where the family has resided for a number of years. In the spring of 1904 he moved to Eldon so that his boys might engage in railroad work.
He had been in failing health since his companion's death, but was able to be up and about, and to attend the annual LUTZ family reunion picnic, which was held on August 7, but almost from that time on he had been under medical care. He had reached the end of life's journey, and all that loving hands could do was of no avail.
He leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his loss, together with the following children: Weldy, D.C. (Nick), Peter, Reuben, Fred, Mrs. Harry CARTER and Mrs. Hi MOSS, all of Eldon; John and Charley of Trenton, Mo.; Mrs. Blanche COOK of Rock Island, Ill., and Jesse of Des Moines; a brother, Thad LUTZ of Eldon, and one sister, Mrs. Jane HAUGE of Elbing, Kan. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Christian church at Eldon, conducted by W. N. Glotfelty and W. L. Ogden, with interment in Brethren cemetery, near Batavia.--Contributed by a relative.
