Ronald Roy FLORA, age 72, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Fairfield, died Friday, November 25, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a lengthy illness (note: in Johnson Co., IA).
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th at the First Christian Church in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Sonshine Ministry Outreach Program. Ron was born December 31, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Ira and Jenny (BELL) FLORA. He graduated from Des Moines North High School in 1961 and later graduated from Drake University. Ron received his Masters of Economics from Iowa State University. He served honorably in the United States Army during the 1960's (sic). He was married to Susan NOUN on June 10, 1966. She preceded him in death. Ron was later united in marriage to Myrna LEYDEN on July 30, 2005, in Fairfield, Iowa.
He owned and operated Word/Form Graphic Design Company in Fairfield, Iowa retiring in 1998. Ron enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and model railroad trains. Ron's passion in life was his church. He was the Founder and Director of Helping Hands at the First Christian Church in Fairfield, Iowa. Ron was a faithful Teaching Elder of the First Christian Church in Washington, and was Founder and Executive Director of the Sonshine Ministry Outreach Program.
Ron is survived by his wife, Myrna FLORA of Washington, Iowa; son, Jason FLORA and wife Tahmi DeSCHEPPER of Fairfield, Iowa; daughter, Catherine MILLER and husband Justin of Fairfield, Iowa; daughter, Patricia LEYDEN of Washington D.C. and one grandson, Craig MILLER of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Susan.
