Kathryn L. DUNCAN

Kathryn L. DUNCAN, 98, of Salem, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Christian Church, with the Rev. David Callen officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery (note: also in Henry Co., IA).

Friends can call after 2 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials can be directed to Hillsboro Christian Church or Hillsboro Fire Department. Online condolences can be left at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com.

Mrs. DUNCAN was born July 19, 1918, near Batavia, the daughter of Samuel and Vernie MARING KITCHEN. She married Fred DUNCAN March 10, 1936, in Palmira, Missouri. He died Jan. 24, 1990.

Mrs. DUNCAN helped her husband on the farm and raised her family. She was a volunteer at the Community Action Center in Mt. Pleasant for several years, and she was honored by Gov. Terry Branstad with The Volunteer of the Year Award in 1983. She enjoyed going to garage sales, Goodwill and trips to Branson. She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia SUMMERS of Salem;, (sic) two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Jim KITCHEN of Illinois.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one great-grandson; five brothers, Paul, Gerald, Billy, Donald and Sammy; five sisters, Florence, Nellie, Neva, Geraldine and Barb.
