Ronald 'Ron' MARTIN

Ronald "Ron" MARTIN, 82, of Fairfield, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at his home.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. MARTIN was born Sept. 30, 1934, in Ottumwa, the son of Fredrick Lee and Ceclia BERGMEIR MARTIN. He married Darlene Fern GOLDSBERRY Aug. 6, 1954, in Lancaster, Missouri. She died Dec. 9, 2007.

Mr. MARTIN served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict).

He worked in Fairfield as manager at Clark Gas Station on Briggs Avenue and moved to Fina Gas station at Main Street and Kirkwood Avenue. He finished his career at Bob's Automotive as a mechanic. Even after he retired, he worked at Loriann's Restaurant in Richland and helped his son Royce at Martin Auction Service.

He loved all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would check on his children daily.

He had a bright smile and funny attitude. Some of his interests were golf, catfishing, old western towns and movies, including John Wayne movies, Texas long-horn cattle and going to old forts. He was an avid Cubs fan and Hawkeyes fan.

Survivors include: his children, Rodney MARTIN and wife Rhonda of McPherson, Kansas, Rhonda WONDERLICH and husband Terry of Ollie, Rochelle McCABE and husband Earl of Fairfield, Royce MARTIN of Fairfield, and Reanea FRISBIE and husband Kevin, also of Fairfield; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Connie HENDRICKS of Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Randy; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Mary SPEERS and Joyce MITRISIN.
