James D. HUFF, one of the well known residents of Fairfield, died Thursday afternoon. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the home of George Mower, conducted by Rev. Thomas Osborn. Interment will be at Bethesda cemetery. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. HUFF has been a great sufferer for the past year from a cancerous growth and his death was not altogether unexpected. During his illness his sister, Mrs. George MOWER, has done much to comfort his closing days.
Mr. HUFF was born in Jefferson county, Jan. 22, 1837. His parents John and Sarah WOODARD HUFF, were among the very first settlers in Jefferson county. Two brothers and two sisters survive hime. They are Henry C., who resides in South Dakota, and Jefferson J., of Rockford, Ill., and two sisters Sarah and Louisa.
Feb. 4, 1869, he was married to Susan JAMES and to this union were born three children, Elmer, Edwin and Jonathan who is supposed to have perished in the San Francisco earthquake.
Mr. HUFF has been for many years a member of the Methodist church.
