Dorothy L. FOSTER

Dorothy La Rue FOSTER, 88, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Brookfield Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Paul, Nebraska.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Oakview Cemetery in Albia (note: in Monroe Co., IA).

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home or Trinity United Methodist Church Choir Fund. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.apfelfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. FOSTER was born April 23, 1928, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of James Edwin and Laura Moorhead NICHOLAUS HOSKINS. She married James Samuel FOSTER Dec. 27, 1953, in Fairfield. He died June 21, 2009.

She grew up in Packwood and graduated from Packwood High School in 1945. She furthered her education at University of Northern Iowa and received her Bachelor of arts in 1948. Later, she did graduate work at Iowa State University in 1952 and 1953.

She and her husband resided in various locations in Iowa, including Jefferson County, North Dakota and Nebraska, before making their home in Grand Island in 1972.

Mrs. FOSTER taught school from 1948-1955, and was employed by ASVAB as a test administrator for 10 years. She also worked as a sales representative for World Book.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a past president of Hebron United Methodist Women. She also was a church circle chairwoman, on the church administrative board, mission chairwoman, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 31, Hebron, NE, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Betsey Hagar Chapter, D.A.R., chapter member of Prairie Pioneer Genealogical Society, Chapter member of Nebraska State Genealogical Society, NRD Auxiliary, Red Cross volunteer, Grand Island Area Home Economists, Grand Island Liederkranz. She volunteered at V.A. Hospital, Park & Recreations Greenhouse and the American Red Cross. She was a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother.

Survivors include: one daughter, Linda FOSTER of Grand Island; one son, Brad FOSTER and wife Michelle of Grand Island; and one granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and one sister, Susan HOSKINS WEBER.
