Dorothy M. Norton, 97, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Keosauqua, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral was held today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Chris Cowles officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials can be made to the Auditorium Seat Fund of the new Mount Pleasant Library.

Mrs. Norton was born Feb. 22, 1907, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Archie and Mayme Pearson Sherman. She married Arthur LeRoy Norton May 4, 1927, in Fairfield. He died March 7, 1971.

She was a school cook for many years at Mount Pleasant High School, Letts School and Pleasant Lawn School. She also was a cook for eight years at the Sarah Beckwith P.E.O. Memorial Home in Mount Pleasant. In addition, she was employed in Mount Pleasant by Jim Gas Laundry and Sheaffer Pen Company for 12 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, East Side Mothers Club and Women of the Moose, all of Mount Pleasant. She was a member of AARP.

In addition to playing in a kitchen band, she was a member of Circle Square B Dance Club with her husband, all in Mount Pleasant.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with her friends to activities. While at Park Place Long Term Care Unit, she remained active in cooking and dining room activities.

Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Boldt and husband Donald of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; three brothers, Phil, Ralph and Jay Sherman; and three sisters, Virginia Winters, Nellie Diers and Lena Walker.
