Myrna Ruth Jones, 69, of rural Douds, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at home.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds.

Open visitation began today at the funeral home. Family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Covenant House or a fund to provide food for the poor can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 16016 120th Street, Douds 52551.

Miss Jones was born June 13, 1935, in the home where she lived her life, the daughter of Harold C. "Bill" and Irene Troxel Jones.

She graduated from West Union rural school and from Douds High School as valedictorian of the class of 1954. She graduated cum laude from Parsons College in 1958.

She was employed for a short time as a proofreader by the Ottumwa Courier and as a bookkeeper by Fulton's Pet & Seed store in Ottumwa. She had contracted polio as a small child, and her health prevented her from pursuing a planned career as a teacher.

She regularly attended Mount Zion Church near Libertyville.

Survivors include her mother; and one sister, Verna Canaday of Douds.

She was preceded in death by her father.
