William PRATT, 97, of Bonaparte, died at today (sic), Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

William Lloyd PRATT, 97, of Bonaparte died at 4:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bonaparte Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Caston and the Rev. Larry Wallingford officiating. Burial with military honors by Sargeant-Osweiler Post will be in Bonaparte Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). The procession will be led by Iowa Patriot Guard.

Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present 3-5 p.m.

Memorials to Bonaparte Library, Bonaparte EMT or Bonaparte Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at PO Box 75, Bonaparte 52620.

Mr. PRATT was born Aug. 8, 1919, in rural Stockport, the son of John and Anna GLASCOCK PRATT. He married Garnett P. HAINLINE April 12, 1941, in Memphis, Missouri. She preceded him in death.

He was known to his family and friends as "Lloyd."

He had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in West Burlington, where he narrowly escaped death in an explosion. He had been a postal clerk and owned and operated Pratt's Tavern in Bonaparte for nearly 50 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Persia, which is now Iran.

He was a member of Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563, American Legion in Bonaparte. He had been a member of the former Bonaparte Lions Club and was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include: one daughter, Donna HALL and husband Ron of Iowa City; three sons, William PRATT and wife Marie of Pueblo, Colorado, John PRATT of Bonaparte, and Harold "Gene" PRATT and wife Bethany of Bonaparte; nine grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: four brothers, Floyd, Harold, Francis and John Jr. PRATT.
