Ernest "Ernie" Ledger, 73, of Brighton died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial following cremation will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Family visitation will precede the funeral from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Memorials for religious education and choir at St. Joseph and Mother Cabrini Catholic churches or masses can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1545 Spruce Ave., Brighton 52540.

Mr. Ledger was born March 15, 1931, near Brighton, the son of Edward and Margaret Peck Ledger. He married Roberta Fedler Nov. 19, 1959, in Fort Madison.

After graduating from Pleasant Plain High School in 1949, he served in the United States Army. He retired from farming in 1993.

Mr. Ledger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus in Fairfield and National Farmers Organization.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Ledger of East Pleasant Plain, Jeffrey Ledger and wife Lori of Richland and Kurt Ledger and wife Kim of Brighton; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Don Ledger of Fairfield, Virgil Ledger of East Pleasant Plain, James Ledger of Washington, Iowa and Lester Ledger of Brighton; and three sisters, Dolores Sieren of Keota, Geraldine Hubler of Durant and Clarabell Vittetoe of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maxine Hahn; and one brother, Elmer Ledger.
