Jack HESTON

Hack HESTON, 89, of Gulfport, Mississippi, and formerly of Van Buren County, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.

The family will have a graveside service at Biloxi National Cemetery at a time to be determined.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice at the Biloxi VA Medical Center. The online guestbook can be signed at www.riemannfamily.com.

Reimann Family Funeral Home in Gulfport is assisting the family.

Mr. HESTON was born April 18, 1927, in Stockport, the son of Floyd HESTON and Mary DOZE HESTON POOLE. He married Alene ACORN. She died in 1988.

Mr. HESTON served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in Operation Downfall.

After his service and his marriage, he and his wife farmed in Birmingham.

In 1969, they moved to Gulfport, where Mr. HESTON became a self-employed well-known home builder on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He retired from the construction business in 1979, and opened a salvage store in Gulfport, where he worked another 26 years until the store was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Unable to sit idle, he purchased a home in Perkinston, Mississippi, where he built custom furniture in his shop up until three weeks before his death.

Mr. HESTON enjoyed life and had many hobbies. He enjoyed taking care of his dogs and spending quality time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.

Survivors include: one son, Donald "Skip" HESTON and his wife Chrsitine of Florida; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles "Bud" HESTON.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Julia ANDERSON; and one half-brother, Roger HESTON.
