Carlene J. PHILLIPS

Carlene J. PHILLIPS, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, July 29, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Debra Savage officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Friends can call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials can be directed to the Breast Cancer Program and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Program, both of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and to the Grace Friends Church children's program. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is handling the arrangements.

Ms. PHILLIPS born Nov. 28, 1959, in Fairfield, the daughter of Clarence E. "Phil" and Frances Mae SIMMONS PHILLIPS.

She graduated from Waco High School in 1978.

She had a deep love for children and ran a daycare from her home for many years.

She enjoyed camping, basketball and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She was a member of the Grace Friends Church in Mt. Pleasant.

She had worked at the Fellowship Cup in Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include: her two children, Charla STEELE and husband Tony of Mt. Pleasant, and Jennifer ELMORE and husband Mick of Laqvey, Missouri; six grandchildren; one brother, Jerry PHILLIPS of Mt. Pleasant; and two sisters, Ruth Ann McMEINS of Mt. Pleasant and Lin SAMMONS of Olds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Frances PHILLIPS.
