Paul L. ENGWALL

Paul L. ENGWALL, 83, of rural Fairfield, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016, as a result of a farm accident (note: tractor roll-over).

A memorial services (sic) will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Word of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Chris Fiske officiating. A private burial will be at a later date in New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is handling the arrangements.

Mr. ENGWALL was born April 14, 1933, in Fairfield, the son of Gilbert and Esther DIERS ENGWALL. He married Nancy L. ZILLMAN March 6, 1955, in Fairfield.

Mr. ENGWALL graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950, and attended Iowa State University.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict).

He worked for the Soil Conservation Commission for several years and was deeply involved in farmland conservation practice on his own farm. He served as a soil conservation commissioner and had received numerous awards.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 47, VFW Post 2271, Korean War Veterans National Association, Iowa Tall Corn Chapter 99, and Lockridge Lions Club.

Mr. ENGWALL enjoyed learning to fly and gave several friends their first plane ride.

He was a member of Word of Life Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy; two children, Michael ENGWALL and wife Kim of Thousand Oaks, California, and Jeff ENGWALL and wife Rachel of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and one brother, Robert ENGWALL of Gainesville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
