Stanley R. REIFF

Stanley Robert REIFF, 90, of Holstein, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Cherokee.

The funeral was held Friday morning at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Burial was in Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove (note: in Ida Co., IA), with military rites by American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post No. 225 ofHolstein (sic).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post or an organization of the donor's choice. To make online condolences, visit the website www.nicklasjensenfh.com.

Mr. REIFF was born May 8, 1926, in Ida Grove, the son of George and Katharine ROEPKE REIFF. He married Shirley PARKER July 11, 1944, in Ida Grove. She died Nov. 5, 2009.

Mr. REIFF graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1943. After helping his father farm for a year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944.

He received his basic training in Farragut, Idaho, and served aboard the USS Fillmore, an attack transport, as electrician's mate, second class, in the South Pacific, New Hebrides, Guam and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago.

Mr. REIFF and his wife farmed southwest of Holstein from 1947 until his retirement in 1989, but continued to reside on the farm until April 2012, when he moved to the Ridge in Holstein.

Mr. REIFF was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. He served on the church council and held several positions.

He served on the Holstein Cooperative Elevator Board for 12 years and the Ida Mutual Insurance Association Board for 17 years.

Mr. REIFF enjoyed and took pride in farming. He liked John Deere tractors and helping his neighbors. He enjoyed family, friends, playing cards, golf, dancing and traveling. He had a gentle spirit, patience and a memorable smile.

Survivors include: five children, Diane KOLBO and husband Tom of Nevada, Iowa, David REIFF and wife Diane of Fairfield, Brian REIFF and fiance Stephane YURICK of Tempe, Arizona, Kent REIFF and wife Anita of Ankeny and Randy REIFF and wife Keri of Normandy Park, Washington; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Eugene and Don; and one sister, Dorothy BROWN.
