Danny L. SEMPF

Danny L. SEMPF, 72, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Simeon Counterman officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 that evening. Full military honors will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Grant Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Danny was born on April 29, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Lloyd & Alma HUMMELL SEMPF. He attended Harmony High School. He was employed with Heatilator (Vega) Industries from 1965 until 1977 before being drafted into the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in May of 1970, remaining on active duty until 1974. Danny received The Army Commendation Medal for heroism in action while engaged in ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam.

He was united in marriage to Peggy J. McMULLIN on September 1, 1973. Danny was also employed by Metro Group in Mt. Pleasant from 1981 until his retirement in 2006. Danny was a master mechanic.

He is survived by his wife Peggy of 43 years; his daughter, Toni SEMPF (Dwayne), his son: Donald (Theresa) McMULLIN, all of Mt. Pleasant, his daughter Deb JOHNSON-BAXTER (Jerry) of Topeka, Kansas; 6 grandsons; Brandon DECK of Topeka, Kansas, Jeffrey (Deborah) DECK of San Antonio, Texas, Joe (Catherine) WELCHER of Topeka, Kansas, Chad (Elisha) McMULLIN, Jessy McMULLIN (Katie) all of Mt. Pleasant and Ryan KRIEGER, USAAF, and 9 great grandchildren; Stacey, Rachelle, Catherine, Ethan, Joseph, Tessa, Ellaina, Averee and Lynnix; his sister Shirley SEMPF of Mt. Pleasant; his brother in laws (sic); Rex (Connie) BURK of Anderson, Missouri, Jerry (Joyce) BURK of Mt. Pleasant and sister in law Vickie HOUSH (Kerry) of Mt. Pleasant, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry SEMPF; brother in law Phillip BURK, his grandparents George D. & Muriel HUMMELL & William & Elizabeth SEMPF.
