Virginia May SLUTTS

Virginia May SLUTTS, 94, of Muscatine and formerly of Eldon and Douds, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at Pearl Valley Care Center in Muscatine (note: in Muscatine Co., IA).

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Eldon Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. John Cooper officiating. Cremation will follow the service, with private burial of cremains in Eldon Cemetery at a later date (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Visitation with family present will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials to Eldon Assembly of God Church can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 401 Colorado St., Apt. 205, Muscatine 52761.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. SLUTTS was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Columbus Junction, the daughter of John and Rosa BISHOP MANLEY. She married Robert Glenn SLUTTS Dec. 23, 1937, in Ottumwa. He died in 1998.

Mrs. SLUTTS raised four sons and was very proud to be the ultimate winner of their hottest sauce contest.

In addition to her four sons, Mrs. SLUTTS influenced hundred of "bonus sons" through Boy Scouts of America as a leader and den mother of Troop 22 in Eldon. She had a heart for service.

For over 50 years, she worked as a waitress at Jones Cafe in Eldon. She loved Elvis Presley, doing the twist and roller skating forward backward and sideways. Games of penny poker and her famous pea salad are remembered by at least three generations.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert SLUTTS and wife Lois of Muscatine, John SLUTTS and wife Wilma of Mediapolis and Gary SLUTTS and wife Vera of Rantoul, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 39 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one son, James SLUTTS; one daughter-in-law, Virginia SLUTTS; and one infant grandson.
