Bettye Kathleen BRUEY, 80, of 2632 Oasis Blvd. in Fairfield, Iowa, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at her daughter's home in rural Fairfield, Iowa.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with words of comfort by Steve Heston. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Evergreen Cemetery, the Lupus Foundation or Ronald McDonald House.

Bettye was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Jefferson County, Iowa, the daughter of Loren F. and Marjorie KELLER STARK. She married R. W. "Dick" BRUEY Nov. 21, 1943, in Memphis, Mo.

She was a lifetime resident of Fairfield, Iowa, and graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1941. She received Teacher's Manual Training and taught at Center #10 in the Jefferson County rural school system. She ran the Salebarn Restaurant and was the clerk at the Fairfield Livestock Commission. Bettye was a bookkeeper at Martin's Drug Store for many years and most recently served as bookkeeper and collector for the Jefferson County Rural Water District.

Survivors include her husband, R. W. "Dick" BRUEY of Fairfield, Iowa; one daughter, Sandy NELSON and husband Jerry of Fairfield, Iowa; and three sisters, Marilyn TODD of Harrison, Ark., Mollee McCAIN of East Moline, Ill., and Pat HESTON of Fairfield, Iowa. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Amy BURKHART and husband Kelly and their children, Jolea and Konnor, all of Fairfield; Mindy HOSKINS and husband Brent and their children, Hunter and Lily, all of Fairfield; Julie NELSON of Fairfield; and Rich TEETER and wife Amy and their son Jack of Springfield, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Judy BRUEY; son-in-law Paul TEETER; and granddaughter Jolene NELSON.
