Mary Ruth SHELMAN

Mary Ruth SHELMAN, 77, of Oskaloosa and formally (sic - formerly) of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Mahaska Health Center in Oskaloosa (note: in Mahaska Co., IA).

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery (note: in Washington Co., IA).

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to Paw's and More or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. SHELMAN was born July 11, 1938, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Earl Calvin and Naomia Ruth FOSTER GALLOWAY. She married Gordon L. SHELMAN April 1, 1956. They later divorced.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

She was a homemaker, and she also worked as aa (sic) hostess at the Best Western Fairfield Inn in Fairfield.

She enjoyed cats and all animals, dancing, especially line dancing and gardening.

Survivors include: children, Gordon E. SHELMAN of North Liberty, Meleia SHELMAN and husband John KANSELAAR of Oskaloosa, Matthew SHELMAN and wife Brenda of Burlington and Nick SHELMAN and wife Rhonda of Washington, Iowa; sister Phyllis MORRISON of Davenport; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, David and Bob; and sister Helen SCOTT.
