Ronald Lee SCHLARBAUM

Ronald Lee SCHLARBAUM, 80, of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, died May 17, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Ron was born on March 16, 1936, in Fairfield, IA. The son of Emmitt and Caldona SCHLARBAUM. He attended Fairfield High School with the class of 1954. Ron married Ann Louise McCABE on August 29, 1958 and divorced in 1968.

SCHLARBAUM served with the Iowa Army National guard from March 1952 to March 1954 at which time he joined the U.S. Air Force. Having served nine years in the U.S. Air Force, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His duties as an Automatic Tracking Radar Technician sent him TDY to various places in Asia including Korea, Laos, Viet-nam (sic) and Cambodia. He and Ann had two sons while stationed at Tachikawa Air Force Base, Tokyo, Japan. Always proud of having had the privilege of serving his country, Ron was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) & Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 2271).

After leaving the Air Force, he worked for Hughes Aircraft, in El Segundo, CA for a brief time, then returned to Fairfield, IA where he lived while attending school in Ottumwa, IA for electronics engineer. After completing school he secured a job at a budding company called Hewlet Packard (sic), in Loveland, Colorado. Divorce took him back to Fairfield, IA where he began working for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline. It was not long before Ron met the love of his life, LeaAnn FOWLER-CHASE. They were married June 1971 and were about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.

Seventeen years later Ron and LeaAnn decided to shift careers and moved to Lakewood, Colorado where they became Property Managers. They excelled at this until they retired to Burns Flat, Oklahoma.

Ron is survived by his wife, LeaAnn SCHLARBAUM of Burns Flat, OK; three sons, Dale CHASE of Ada, Okla.; Douglas SCHLARBAUM of Sierra Vista, AZ; Curtis CHASE of Burns Flat, Okla.; six granddaughters, two grandsons, six great-grandchildren, two nephews, one niece.

He is preceded in death by parents Emmitt and Caldona SCHLARBAUM of Fairfield, IA; two brothers, Donald SCHLARBAUM of Omaha, NE; Philip SCHLARBAUM of Ottumwa, IA and one sister Pauline (SCHLARBAUM) CARL of Fairfield, IA; two sons Dennis SCHLARBAUM of Loveland, CO; Scott CHASE of Burns Flat, OK; and a niece, Kim Ann (SCHLARBAUM) KRIVA of New Berlin, WI.

A memorial service will be held at a date yet to be determined. SCHLARBAUM's cremains will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa at that time.

Memorials contributions (sic) may be made to the Disabled American Veterans chapter of your choice.

Ronald SCHLARBAUM and Lea Ann FOWLER CHASE SCHLARBAUM

Graveside services and interment of cremains for Ronald Lee SCHLARBAUM and Lea Ann FOWLER CHASE SCHLARBAUM will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Military honors for Mr. SCHLARBAUM will be by Offutt Air Force Base.
