Russell YODER

Russell would like you to know that he received a call, a sort of offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a big sign-on bonus, a reunion with family, Dad, Daniel P, "Butch Dan", Mom, Elsie C, brothers Verton, Cletus, Raymond and Jim; sisters Ardis and Gernie, and friends he has not seen in a long time.

He wants us to know that even though his work here is done he expects to see us again. He lived his life aligned with the words in Matthew 10:29 "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it". Russell joined the human existence on June 6, 1927, and since then grew into understanding the humility of Jesus' words and helping others with his gifts which always included love and laughter. He was a role model for words like: son, brother, soldier, husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, trustee, deacon, Sunday school teacher, neighbor, carpenter, farmer and friend.

Devoted to his wife of 63 years, Joyce, he raised a family of 3 girls Patricia Lynn, (James) MORGAN, Brenda Lee (Dennis) PERRY and Danita Marie and a son Duane Russell (Kate) "when the wind changed" he said. Additionally Russell is survived by his sister Agnes and brother Ralph. He was blessed with a wonderfully large family of 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with another on-the-way.

Russell has built his last house, here on earth, but is going to hone his skills with the greatest carpenter of all, whose home is where we all have a room, and a seat at the table.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ollie Baptist Church with Pastor Harlan Van Voorst and Pastor Gary Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa with military services conducted by Walter B. Shafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Ollie Baptist Church.
