Evelyn Helen EWALD NORMANDIN

Evelyn Helen NORMANDIN, age 95 years young, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed on Wednesday morning, June 1, 2016 peacefully and gracefully in her sleep at home.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated with a beautiful private ceremony.

A memorial celebration of her life will be Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 2 pm at The McElhinny House 300 North Court, Fairfield. All are warmly invited.

Cards and memorials can be sent to Susan PAVELKA PO Box 1031 Fairfield IA 52556. A fitting memorial in her name will be decided at a later date.

Mrs. NORMANDIN was born July 7, 1921 in Baltimore Maryland, the daughter of William and Helen BURRIER EWALD. She married Charles Leo NORMANDIN Sr. May 15, 1948. He died June 16, 2000 after 52 years of marriage.

Evelyn graduated from Eastern All Girls School in Baltimore Maryland. She was the supervisor of the clerical department, overseeing 35 women, for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, where she met her husband, a CPA.

After their marriage they moved to Chicago IL, where her husband continued his career and their son Charles was born. Three years later, they moved to South Jersey where their daughter Susan was born and they lived for 49 years.

Always fashionable, Evelyn was a dynamo, highly intuitive, full of energy, and ready to go anywhere, especially shopping and going out to lunch.

After her husbands (sic) death, Evelyn moved to Fairfield, Iowa to be with her daughter Susan and her husband Harry.

Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who cherished family above all else.

She was very creative and liked to sew, knit, crochet, refinish furniture and could duplicate any handicraft that she saw. Evelyn was active in all her children's activities growing up and was the Den Mother with the Cub Scouts for her son and started the Brownies for her daughter. Evelyn was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, starting in Baltimore and continuing in South Jersey with the Athene Chapter NO. 201, serving as The Worthy Matron and other offices. Evelyn along with her husband learned the Transcendental Meditation techiique which she practiced for 21 years. In Fairfield, she was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Peer Group, and The Heritage Club at First National Bank.

During Evelyn's 15 years living in Fairfield, she traveled the world with her daughter and son in law. A few of the places she traveled to were the entire state of California/Pacific Coast in 10 days with the Heritage Club of Fairfield; Hawaii Islands; a cruise to Alaska; Greece, Turkey and London with MUM Rotating University; Germany (to see the towns where her Grandparents were born), Holland (visited Maharishi's house); Paris; a cruise to the Caribbean Islands and the Bahamas.

Evelyn was very loved and will be greatly missed, especially by her son, Charles L. NORMANDIN, her daughter Susan PAVELKA and 2 loving companion dogs, Emma and Molly, all of Fairfield; nephew Dr. Gordon ZORN and his family of Maryland and several other nephews and nieces, and many friends and admirers over the years.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law Harry PAVELKA, her parents and sister Audrey ZORN and brother in law John ZORN.
