Karen K. SALTER

Karen K. SALTER, 75, of Keosauqua, died at 11:08 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at home.

In accord with Mrs. SALTER's wishes, the body has been cremated. A celebration of life will be later this summer at the Mansion Inn.

Memorials to Tarnished Brass Band or Van Buren County High School Band can be mailed to the family at 500 Henry St., Keosauqua 52565.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is assisting the family.

Mrs. SALTER was born July 5, 1940, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Willard and Florabelle KERR COX. She married William J. SALTER Feb. 2, 1958, in Keosauqua. He died Nov. 22, 2012.

Mrs. SALTER graduated from Keosauqua High School and Drake University in Des Moines, where she earned a master's degree in psychology. She opened her own practice in Des Moines counseling those with disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder.

She and her husband were adoptive foster parents for many children with special needs.

In 1995, the SALTERs retired to Keosauqua and opened The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast in the historic Manning mansion, which they operated until Mr. SALTER's death.

The SALTERs were founders of the Tarnished Brass that performs at many community functions. Mrs. SALTER remained active in the band until her final illness.

Survivors include: four daughters, Cindy McLERAN, Brenda STIFEL, Lynnette SALTER and Kim BASHARA all of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Sandie MURRAY of Keosauqua and Mary COHENOUR of Fairfield; and one brother, Marvin COX of Fairfield.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, John FORD; one daughter, Lisa WINGERT SALTER; one sister, Naomi PATTERSON; four brothers, Dean, Larry Joe, Bill and Ronnie COX; and one great-granddaughter.
