Mildred Burch, 89, of Ankeny and formerly of Birmingham, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Mill Pond Court in Ankeny.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Mike Renken officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Open visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to Birmingham First Responders or Birmingham Public Library.

Mrs. Burch was born Aug. 24, 1915, in Fairfield, the daughter of Homer LeRoy and Margaret Sullivan Rodgers. She married Gilbert William Burch June 30, 1936, at her parents' home in Birmingham. He later died.

She graduated from Birmingham High School. She and her husband returned to Birmingham in 1946 after several years in Denver, Colo. They owned and operated Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham.

Mrs. Burch was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Rodger Burch and wife Marilyn of Des Moines and Robert Burch and wife Pat of Norwalk; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Hollis Dean McConnell.
