Margaret Louise Abernathy, 81, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Linby, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, at Fremont Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Carver officiating. Interment will follow at Competine Cemetery near Farson.

Visitation will begin after noon Tuesday, with the family present to greet friends from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her name.

Mrs. Abernathy was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Linby, the daughter of Clarence Lyle and Edith May Vannoy Clingman. She was married to James Marion Abernathy June 11, 1944, in Ottumwa. He died Oct. 4, 1992.

She graduated from Farson High School in 1939. She was employed by North Western Bell Telephone Company in Cedar Rapids for 30 years as a long-distance operator. She also worked at Smulekoff's in Cedar Rapids as a receptionist.

She enjoyed sports and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bulls fan. She was a world traveler, last traveling to Hawaii in March.

Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Shueyville United Methodist Church in Shueyville.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean Hahn and her husband Cary of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Judith Louise Dochterman.
