Darrell Don HANKS, 77, of New London, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at his home (note: in Henry Co., IA).
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Interment will be at Burge Cemetery, with military rites by Henry County Honor Guard.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with the family present 5-7 p.m.
Memorials have been established to New London Fire and Rescue and New London Music Boosters.
Mr. HANKS was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Clarence Perry and Helen Ida YOUNG HANKS. He married Virginia PEARSON Aug. 20, 1966, in New London.
He was a 1956 graduate of New London High School and was a member of the New London United Methodist Church. He was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. HANKS worked at Spahn and Rose Lumber, Fullerton Lumber, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant Plant (sic) and retired from Standard of Beaverdale where he was a salesman.
He enjoyed mushroom hunting, spending time with his two granddaughters, four-wheeling in the timber, being outside and reading Louis L'amour books.
Survivors include: his wife; his mother of New London; one daughter, Carolyn FARLEY; two granddaughters; four sisters, Sandra SCHNICKER of New London, Nancy LARKINS of Burlington, Meri HANKS of Leander, Texas, and Jane MARTIN of Ankeny; and one brother, Bill HANKS of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his father.
