Lula Ann 'Lou' TURNER

Lula Ann "Lou" TURNER, 84, of Pella, died Friday, May 6, 2016, at Pella Comfort House (note: in Marion Co., IA).

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, with the Rev. Todd Holman officiating.

Mrs. TURNER was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Earnest and Lena KREISS DeHART. She married John D. TURNER Oct. 23, 1953. He died March 8, 2012.

Raised in the Keosauqua area, Mrs. TURNER graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1950.

She was a clerk typist for Freeport Motor Casualty in Des Moines. After marriage, she had her husband resided (sic) in Des Moines for several years, and she was a stay-at-home mom, while her husband was a short-haul truck driver.

She enjoyed baking, puzzles and taking care of the garden. She and her husband spent weekend evenings playing cards with friends and family.

The couple moved to Fairfield, where they were both closer to their siblings.

They were members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She belonged to the auxiliary and had designed an award-winning scrapbook for their state competition. The couple enjoyed playing bingo and 31 with friends.

Mrs. TURNER moved to Pella in April 2013 to be closer to family. Living at Vriendschap Village, she enjoyed coffee time, games, cards, and the many friends who became her extended family. She helped with various activities in the village and she worked in the village library.

Survivors include: daughter Susan MARTIN and husband Randy of Pella; son Martin TURNER and wife Tammy of Des Moines; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three siblings, Dorothy KELLER of Belton, Missouri, Ron DeHART of Glendale, Arizona, and Carol EDMONSTON of Des Moines.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and brothers, Douglas DeHART and LeRoy DeHART.
