Donald E. SMITH

Donald E. SMITH, 95, of rural Douds, died Friday, May 6, 2016, at home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, with the Rev. Mary Kathryn Hart officiating. Burial will be in Competine Cemetery in Farson (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with family present 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Faith United Methodist Church or Noah's Ark and condolences can be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to Donna DONALD, 905 Keoway, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. SMITH was born July 19, 1920, at Farson, the son of Raphael and Mary Neva MILLER SMITH. He married Lorene Marie VANNOY Aug. 30, 1941, in Lancaster, Missouri. She died Jan. 21, 1997.

Mr. SMITH attended Competine rural school, and worked as a farm laborer as a young man. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked at The Dexter Company in Fairfield until retiring to the farm.

He and his wife lived in Libertyville until moving to their farm near Douds in 1986.

Survivors include: four daughters, Donna DONALD, Bonnie CARTER and husband Bill and Joyce TEETER and husband Chuck, all of Keosauqua and Linda RUTLEDGE and husband Terry of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy BATES of Fort Madison, Alice LEE of North Liberty, Virginia FALKNER of Martinsburg and Annie MILLER of Springfield, Missouri.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: four brothers, Dale, Gerald, Floyd and Keith E. SMITH; and one sister, Lulu Belle COLLET.
