Betty Joan GRAY

Betty Joan GRAY, 86, of Fairfield, died Saturday, May 7, 2016, at SunnyBrook Living Care in Fairfield.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield, with the Rev. Howard Innis officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be used for a local children fund. Cards and memorials can be mailed to Jeanette COX, 14490 Short St., Douds 52551. Online condolences can be made at www.behnerfh.com .

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting with arrangements.

Mrs. GRAY was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Fairfield, the daughter of Dale and Lucille CORNELL LYONS. She married James GRAY Jan. 28, 1945. He died May 13, 1979.

Mrs. GRAY loved working in her flower bed and garden, cooking, making quilts, cross stitching and embroidering. Her passion was spending time with and cooking for her family.

Survivors include: nine children, Jeanette COX of Douds, Diane BREWER of Corpus Christi, Texas, Randal GRAY and wife Sharon of Seattle, Washington, Mary WHITE and husband Gary of Lisle, Illinois, James GRAY Jr. of Fairfield, Robert GRAY and wife Janyce of Cedar Rapids, Tamie STEPHENSON of Fairfield, Clinton GRAY and wife Sandra of Keosauqua and Susan LIGON and husband Dennis of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill LYONS of Fairfield; and one sister, Thelma DUKER of Pennsylvania.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Jack GRAY; one brother, Richard LYONS; and one son-in-law, Bill COX.
