Evelyn BICE, 103, of Mt. Pleasant, died today, Thursday, May 5, 2016, at SunnyBrook Assisted Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Evelyn Marie BICE

Evelyn Marie BICE 103, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at SunnyBrook Assisted Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Aaron Helterbran officiating. According to her wishes, cremation will follow the service, and burial will be at a later date in Lambirth Cemetery in rural Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. BICE was born Sept. 21, 1912, rural Salem, the daughter of Ernest Winfield and Lurena Helen WOOD ELLIOTT. She married Dale Elvin BICE June 1, 1937, in Burlington.

Mrs. BICE had taught at several rural country schools.

She enjoyed playing cards, and had made several quilts for family and friends.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include: her children, Donald R. BICE and wife Ann of Wamego, Kansas, and John E. BICE and wife Marilyn of Stockport; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Margaret WATSON, Marjorie HULMES and Fern GARWOOD; and three half-sisters, Mamie BELL, Macil MYERS and Nellie LYKE.
