Dale Max IRELAND

Dale Max IRELAND, 92, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Eldon, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Oskaloosa Care Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the Rev. Dave Albert officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation will be noon until the service Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. IRELAND, son of Frank and Gertie McCREERY IRELAND, was born June 24, 1923, in Packwood. He married Marjorie MEIXNER Sept. 29, 1947, at the Christian church in Batavia.

His early years were spent in the Packwood area, where he graduated from the Packwood High School.

He worked as a farmhand before enlisting in the Army Jan. 7, 1943. He served until his honorable discharge in 1945.

He and his wife lived in Packwood for a short time before moving to Agency. He worked full-tine at Horner box in Ottumwa, while also tending to the farm. When Horner Box closded, he worked at Louden Machinery Company in Fairfield for more than 20 years until retiring in 1988.

Mr. and Mrs. IRELAND moved several times throughout their life together. The family eventually moved to Eldon, where they remained for 24 years before moving closer to family in Oskaloosa.

Mr. IRELAND loved animals of all kinds and had many on the farm. He was an avid baseball fan and always enjoyed watching the game or a good western on TV. He was a hard worker, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Surivors (sic) include: his wife, Marjorie; one son, Dennis IRELAND and wife Jane of Oskaloosa; one daughter, Susan READ and husband Keith of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marilyn HACKER.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Charles IRELAND, Junior "Frank" IRELAND, and Paul IRELAND; and one sister, Betty HANEY.
