Joseph Abram FRAKES

Joseph Abram FRAKES, 93, of 902 W. Grimes Ave., died at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the home of his daughter Mary BARNETT in Fairfield.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory. The body was cremated. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Hospice of Washington County.

Mr. FRAKES was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Jefferson County, the son of William H. and Augusta C. CARLSON FRAKES. He married Viola May TULLER July 3, 1938, in Jefferson County. She died May 7, 1987.

He lived most of his life in the Fairfield community. He served in the United States Army military police in World War II.

He was an active member of the Democratic Party and ran for a seat on the Iowa Senate in the late 1950s. He was employed as a grinder at The Dexter Company and served the International Molders Union Local 159 as shop steward, financial secretary and negotiator.

He served on the Fairfield City Council for 20 years

Survivors include two sons, Roger FRAKES of Ollie and Harold FRAKES of Brighton; one daughter, Mary BARNETT of Fairfield; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry A. FRAKES; one brother, Raymond FRAKES; and one sister, Anna PRATT.
