Helen H. GOHN rites Saturday

Helen H. RAINS GOHN, 81, 903 W. Burlington, died at noon Wednesday at the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home in Keota where she had been a resident of the past three weeks. She had been in failing health the past two months.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery (see note below).

Visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Nazarene Church or the First Christian Church.

Helen GOHN was born Dec. 8, 1903, near Batavia. She was the daughter of Elmer and Myrta EVANS FORNEY. She lived most of her life in the Fairfield Community.

She was married to Robert J. RAINS, Sr., Dec. 24, 1923, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. He died January, 1960 (sic - 1961). Her marriage to Oliver GOHN, Sr., took place Dec. 9, 1967, in Fairfield. He died Sept. 18, 1979.

Mrs. GOHN was a member of the First Christian Church and attended the Nazarene Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs and VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. RAINS, Jr., Birmingham, and Leonard RAINS, Des Moines; two daughters, Dorothy BARROW, Fairfield, and Karen FORDYCE, Davenport; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Also two brothers, Earl FORNEY, Fairfield, and John FORNEY, Ankeny; a sister, Marie RHODEBECK, Washington; and the following step-children, Oliver GOHN, Jr., Emmettsberg; Vernard North Carolina; Howard, Davenport; and Barbara LETTS, Oletha, Kan.

Mrs. GOHN was preceded in death by one son and one sister.

Admin. note: The burial location provided in this obituary is in error. Former husband Robert J. RAINS was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, the other lot there being occupied by their son Clarence Leroy RAINS. Helen was buried in Union Cemetery as was her second husband Oliver GOHN.
