Jeri Mae FELIX of Fairfield, Iowa passed away on January 27th at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from surgical complications. Jeri was born in December 3, 1945, daughter of Lydia Mae FELIX and David FELIX, both of Norwalk, CT and both deceased. She is survived by her four siblings, David William FELIX of San Diego, CA, Kathleen Lydia FELIX of Danbury, CT, Bruce Frederick FELIX, of Guilford CT, and Susan FELIX HUGGINS, of Fairfield, IA. Her 6 nieces and nephews, who she adored, also survive her.
Jeri graduated from Norwalk High School, class of 1963. She then attended Westbrook Junior College of Portland, Maine and The University of CT, from where she obtained her BFA in Textile Arts. She went on to earn her MFA in Fine Arts from The University of Cincinnati, where she also taught undergraduate painting and drawing.
An active teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Program, Jeri taught extensively for many years throughout Connecticut and Ohio before moving to Iowa. She moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 1984, where she pursued her passion for being a fulltime, professional artist, which she did for the remainder of her life.
Jeri was also a keen lover of animals and she provided a home, both permanent and foster, for many fortunate four-footed creatures. She could often be seen walking the perimeter of Bonneville Lake, barefoot (even in November!), with her current dog 'family'.
A true free spirit, Jeri was a lover of life who constantly felt appreciation for Fairfield, Iowa and her community and life here. She was a loving, warm, accepting soul with a fierce passion for spiritual growth and creative work. Her own person in every way, Jeri was truly a force in our community and her generous and kind nature will be deeply missed by us all.
Jeri's Celebration of Life Event will be held from 1:30-3:30 PM on March 26th at the ICON Gallery, 58 N Main Street, Fairfield, Iowa. The gallery is currently showing the Jeri Felix Retrospective Art Show, which whill run through April 16th.
Memorial donations may be made to ICON Gallery or to Heavenly Pet Sanctuary or Noah's Ark Animal Foundation (both of Fairfield, IA).
