Bernard COOP, 85, of Johnston and formerly of Fairfield, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his daughter's home in Johnston (note: in Polk Co., IA).

Funeral arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Bernard R. COOP, age 85 of Johnston and formerly of Fairfield, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his home in Johnston.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Jef Coop officiating. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield. A luncheon and gathering of family and friends will follow at the VFW in Fairfield.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Antioch Cemetery Association. Online condolences can be left at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. COOP was born Aug. 27, 1930 in Jefferson County, the son of Raymond M. and Ferne GODWIN COOP. He married Benna Grace BOLEY Sept. 2, 1951, in Hillsboro.

He grew up in the Antioch community and was a graduate of Fairfield High School.

He was a farmer and worked in construction.

Mr. COOP served in the Iowa National Guard.

A life-long resident of Jefferson County until moving to Johnston in 2010.

Survivors include: his wife Benna; five daughters: Kristin GONZALEZ and husband Alex of Des Moines, Kim WALIGORA and husband Mark of New Virginia, Becky McINTIRE and husband Steve of Grimes, Sherri COOP of West Des Moines, Brenda PAULSON and husband Jerry of Houston, Texas; and one son, Jeff COOP and wife Linda of Urbandale; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce COOP of Fairfield; and four sisters, Jo CHAMBERS of Packwood, Sharon SMITH of Mt. Pleasant, Colee HOSPERS of Iowa City and Rose HENDRICKS of Fairfield.

Deceased family members include: his parents; one brother, Roger COOP; and one grandson.
