James Charbonneau
October 07, 2004James V. Charbonneau, 71, of rural Keosauqua died at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials to Cantril United Methodist Church or Van Buren County Hospital emergency service can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 22353 Highway 1, Keosauqua 52565.
Mr. Charbonneau was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Ottawa, Ill., the son of Ralph E. and Mildred McElwee Charbonneau. He married Shirley Smith April 25, 1951, in Memphis, Mo.
After attending Cantril High School, he was employed by Smith Service Station in Cantril and worked as a carpenter. He was employed for 38 years by Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring as assistant supervisor in 1997.
Mr. Charbonneau was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church.
He built wood and metal crafts which he displayed and sold at his home and at Mount Pleasant Old Threshers reunions. In addition, he was a collector of antique John Deere farm implements.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Brenda Charbonneau of Des Moines and Ray Von Charbonneau and wife Rose Mary of Keosauqua; two grandsons; three stepgranddaughters; three great-granddaughters; five stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Meiners of Blair, Neb.; and three brothers, Roger Charbonneau of Las Vegas, Nev., Ben Charbonneau of Logan and Fred Charbonneau of Delta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Lonnie Joe; two sisters, Ruth Jurkas and Paulene Jennings; and three brothers, Dale Charbonneau, Thomas Charbonneau and Ralph Charbonneau Jr.
