Dennis George LANE

Dennis George LANE was born November 1, 1934, son of George and Mary MILETICH LANE in Lovilia, Iowa. He passed peacefully at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas, on February 1, 2016.

The first of five children, the young family of four moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 1942, where Denny attended Washington Grade School, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1953. Denny served in the United States Army (1953-1955) during the Korean Conflict.

Denny returned to Fairfield and attended Parsons College until relocating to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1972 Denny established "Denny Lane Sports Promotion Company" and engaged in the promotion of professional sports, particularly hockey, from coast to coast. He was especialloy proud of his association with the Detroit Red Wings' annual Kids' Night program.

Throughout his life Denny remained an ardent and loyal fan of Fairfield, Iowa. Although he made his home in the San Diego area since 1970, he continued to subscribe to the Fairfield Daily Ledger for decades. His affection for Fairfield was shared with his brother Richard (Dick) of Colorado and upon his death Denny had a tree planted in Central Park in Dick's memory. Denny's surviving siblings plan to remember him in the same manner.

Denny is survived by his sister, Mary Martin LANE (nee Rosemary) of Waterloo, Iowa; brothers Gary (Gerda), Bettendorf, Iowa and Joe (Bev) of Marion, Iowa; his special friend, Karen Porter, Topeka, Kansas; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and several life-long friends, all of whom mourn his passing.

Denny was preceded in death by his father, George LANE (1997), mother, Mary MILETICH LANE (2006) and brother, Richard LANE (2007). May they rest in peace.

A private service is planned.
