Raymond JOHNSON, 68, of Birmingham, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Raymond JOHNSON

Raymond JOHNSON, 68, of Birmingham, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 5 at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. Following the graveside service, the family invites family and friends to join them for a luncheon at the VFW in Fairfield.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. March 4 at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, the dialysis center at the Jefferson County Health Center or to the Wounded Warriors Project. Memorials can be left at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com .

Mr. JOHNSON was born May 8, 1947, in Fairfield, the son of Charles Edward and Nita Faye HODSON JOHNSON. He married Karee BRIDEN Dec. 23, 1966, in Stockport.

When he was young, Mr. JOHNSON lived in the Richland-Keota community before the family moved to Birmingham. He lived most of his life in the Birmingham community and graduated from Van Buren High School.

Mr. JOHNSON was a foundry worker and laborer at Iowa Malleable and Falco companies in Fairfield.

He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 26, 1966, to Oct. 15, 1968, during the Vietnam War (sic - Vietnam Conflict).

Survivors include: his wife, Karee; one son, Phil JOHNSON and wife Sandra of Birmingham; one daughter, Pam CONDER and husband Chuck of Bloomfield; three brothers, Richard JOHNSON of Fairfield, Dennis JOHNSON of Deer Creek, Wisconsin, and Charles "Jeff" JOHNSON of Lockridge; and two sisters, Diana JOHNSON of Keosauqua and Kathy KUHLUNBECK of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Donald JOHNSON.
