Duane Joseph MOTTET

Duane Joseph MOTTET, 85, of rural Brighton, died early Friday Feb. 5, 2016, at Halcyon House in Washington, surrounded by his family (note: in Washington Co., IA).

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Concelebrants Rev. Robert Striegel and Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain from 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday followed by prayers for a Christian wake at 3 p.m.

Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery Association or Hospice of Washington County may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 3360 Fir Avenue, Brighton, Iowa 52540. Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Duane was born in West Chester Nov. 30, 1930, to Laurence Xavier and Mary Winifred STREB MOTTET. He grew up in Grace Hill north of Brighton and attended country school. Duane married Carol WEBB at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper on April 24, 1954. He and Carol lived on the family farm near Brighton.

Duane was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was an avid traveler, traveling extensively throughout the United States, Korea, Scotland and Australia. They spent winters in Mission, Texas for several years.

Duane is survived by his wife, Carol, four children: Daniel MOTTET (Barbara) of Brighton, Douglas MOTTET (Jane) of Kansas City, Missouri, Timothy MOTTET (Rick Gonzalez) of Maryville, Missouri, and Julie JOHNSON (Rob) of Washington, seven grandchildren, three great granddaughters and one sister, Dolores BROWN of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Catherine GODWIN, Jeneta WELTHA, and Helen McDOWELL; and three brothers: Francis, Bernard and Dick MOTTET.
