John KOONTZ, 97 of Fairfield, died today, Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

John W. KOONTZ

John W. KOONTZ, 97 of Fairfield, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at his home.

The funeral, with military honors, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Todd Holman officiating.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. KOONTZ was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Fairfield, the son of Ross and Pearl GLASGOW KOONTZ. He married Ruth LARSON in 1946 at the United Methodist church.

Mr. KOONTZ graduated from Fairfield High School in 1936.

He was a farmer.

Mr. KOONTZ served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from March 20, 1942, until Oct. 19, 1945. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of Fairfield Lions Club, a 50-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Howard Johnson Coffee Club and the VFW. He worked at The Lord's Cupboard and the Jefferson County Health Center Auxiliary Bargain Box and was an active member of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include: his wife Ruth of Fairfield; one son, Jeff KOONTZ and wife Pam of Fairfield; one daughter, Patti SMALL and husband Craig of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Howard "Bud" KOONTZ; and five sisters, Gladys KOONTZ, Ruth SALTS, Helen HIATT, Marge MANLEY and Erma HARTMAN.
