Edward A. NEWMAN

The Rev. Edward A. NEWMAN, 62, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Jane Martinez officiating.

Friends can call after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 5-8 p.m., at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials directed to First Baptist Church of Ottumwa or the Fellowship Cup of Mt. Pleasant. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com

Mr. NEWMAN was born Dec. 2, 1953, at Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Eugene Merle and Edwyna PREISS NEWMAN. He married Beth CARRELL. He later married Vivian DONALDSON July 17, 2010, at The Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel in Mt. Pleasant.

Following graduation from high school, he did his undergraduate study at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and received his master's degree in divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He had served churches in southeast Iowa, Hillsboro Baptist Church, Harrisburg Baptist Church, Lockridge Baptist Church, and Rome Baptist Church. He was currently serving First Baptist Church in Ottumwa.

He was involved in many different organizations in the communities in which he was living.

Survivors include: his wife, Vivian of Mt. Pleasant; her children, Heather APPLEGATE and husband Luke of Fairfield, Denise WHEELOCK and husband Matthew of New London, Rebekah DONALDSON of New London, and Jeremy DONALDSON of Colorado; eight grandchildren; and three sons, Eric NEWMAN and wife Nancy and their son of Decatur, Illinois, Evan NEWMAN of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Ethan NEWMAN of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
