OTTUMWA - Russ BURTON, 78, of 5922 Lake Rd. died January 10, 2016 at his home.
He was born September 20, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Russell and Maxine BURTON. He married Serena Sue HEINJE on May 24, 1969.
Having grown up in Chicago, he was the recipient of the Hibbard Letter. Russ graduated from DePaul University with a degree to be a certified public accountant and served with the U.S. Army reserves in Illinois. Russ also lived in Niles and Wheeling before moving to Ottumwa in 1989. He then worked for Fredrick Schwartz & Co. in Fairfield.
He had been a member of the Rotary Club of Ottumwa. Russ enjoyed working out at the YMCA, enjoyed his pets including 3 pet cows, loved watching college sports, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Bulls.
Russ was a devoted father, Cub Master, coached his son's soccer teams and loved spending time with his son's activities.
Surviving is his wife, Serena; a son, Brett Douglas (Amber Hassan) BURTON of Springfield, VA; two grandchildren, Arman BURTON and Ava BURTON; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Janice HEINJE of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Maxine and Ben BABITZKY.
His body has been cremated.
A celebration of Russ's life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 1149, Ottumwa, Iowa, IA 52501 (sic).
