Ethan Allen TOWNE

Ethan Allen TOWNE, 66, of Chariton and formerly of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.

The funeral was held Saturday at Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Melvin officiating. Burial was in Chariton Cemetery in Chariton.

Memorials to Lucas County Humane Society, Chariton Volunteer Fire Department, Melrose Volunteer Fire Department, American Cancer Society or New Hope Village of Carroll can be made in care of Donna TOWNE at 17898 Highway 34, Chariton 50049.

Mr. TOWNE was born July 10, 1938, in Jamaica, Iowa, the son of Bruce Fay and Mildred Maurine ALLEN TOWNE. He married Donna Kay WHITELY June 8, 1976.

He left Jamaica to attend Parsons College. After graduating in 1959 with a degree in accounting, he taught accounting and coached the womens softball team at the college. In 1973, he accepted employment with the Iowa state legislative fiscal bureau in Des Moines and resided in Indianola and Des Moines. He moved to Carrollton, Texas, in 1980 as chief financial officer for Sasco Products. His 20-year career with Sasco included a return to Des Moines to manage shipping operations and purchase of the company in 1992. He relocated the company to Chariton in 1996.

Mr. TOWNE served with the United States Army National Guard, coached the La Pizza House Kittens women's softball team of Des Moines from 1975-1980 and was inducted as coach into the Iowa Women's Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and a KAABA Shriner.

He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and his dog. Pastimes included visiting Prairie Meadows, the Osceola boat and Las Vegas, Nev.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Kellie SINCLAIR and husband Tony of Melrose and Michael CURRAN of Russell; three grandchildren; and one brother, Steve TOWNE of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant brother, Phillip.
