Alice L. Fite, 90, of 807 W. Taylor Ave., died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, with the Rev. David Albert officiating.

Open visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home.

Memorials to the family can be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fite was born July 13, 1914, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Otto and Mabel Johnson Schafer. She married Beryl Fite April 5, 1931, in Davis County. They later divorced.

She lived most of her life in the Floris community. She was employed as a nurses aide by St. Josephs Hospital in Ottumwa. She moved in the late 1980s to Cedar Rapids. She was a resident of Nelson Nursing Home for the past five years.

Mrs. Fite was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Laughlin and Joyce Vaughn, both of Eldon; daughter-in-law Collene Fite of Eldon; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald Schafer and Lester Schafer, one son, Lester LaVerne Fite; one grandson; two sons-in-law, Forrest Laughlin and John W. Vaughn; and two step-grandchildren.
