September 13, 2004Richard Michael Harbin, 10, of Lockridge, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in rural Mount Pleasant from injuries received in an automobile accident west of Mount Pleasant.
The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium of the former Lockridge Elementary School, with the Rev. Monte Knutson of Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant and the Rev. Ed Newman of Lockridge Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery in Lockridge.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with family present from 4-8 p.m. Calling hours continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family at 204 N. Center St., Lockridge 52635.
Richard was born Feb. 20, 1994, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, the son of Joseph Douglas and Kelly Sue Stutzman Harbin.
He was a fifth-grade student at Pence Elementary School in Fairfield. In addition to serving as school crossing guard and lunchroom attendant, he was school bus partner for young children.
Richard was an honorary member of Lockridge Fire Department, helping as victim in fire safety training exercises and running errands for the department during training classes.
He played with wrestling figures, and Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon cards. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and conversing with Lockridge friends and neighbors while on bicycle rides. He enjoyed fishing and swimming. He was an artist and creative storyteller.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Summer Shannon of Mount Pleasant, Christine Shannon of Lockridge and Angela Shannon of Lockridge; and grandparents Hazel Stutzman of Lockridge, Marilyn Kock of Mount Pleasant and Sally and Dave Shannon of Edgerton, Wis.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers LeRoy Stutzman and Robert Harbin; and great-grandparents Max and Mae Stutzman, Richard and Ann Pratt and Lois Ross.
