September 13, 2004Ellsworth W. Schoeni, 94, of Douds died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Leando Cemetery in Douds.
No visitation will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for a business scholarship for a Van Buren High School graduate can be brought to the service or mailed to the family at PO Box 8, Douds 52551.
Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schoeni was born Aug. 24, 1910, on the farm his family homesteaded near Kensington, Kan., the son of Charles Ray and Minnie Trump Schoeni. He married Ethyl Plowman June 9, 1935, in the Plowman family home near Douds.
He graduated from Kansas University, Lawrence, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and DeMolay Society. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Schoeni was employed as finance manager for Universal CIT in Tucson, Ariz., before returning in 1950 to Douds to farm. He served as president of Farmers & Traders Savings Bank for 30 years and was a member of the Douds-Leando school board for some years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sandra Moradi and husband Ali of Douds; one son, Gary Schoeni and wife Kathryn of Douds; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
