Samuel Robert Williamson, 86, of Fairfield died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Kurt Makower officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Raymond Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to First Christian Church, Fairfield Public Library and Fairfield Rotary Club Scholarship Fund.

Mr. Williamson was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Mahaska County, the son of the Rev. Samuel P. and Helen Brammer Williamson. His father officiated at his wedding to Wilhelmina Louise Thoma July 3, 1941, in Fairfield. She died Feb. 15, 1994.

A resident in Fairfield from 1929, Mr. Williamson graduated from Fairfield High School and, in 1939, from Parsons College. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He joined Fairfield Glove & Mitten Company. Named secretary-treasurer in 1946, he rose to vice president in 1972 and president in 1974 until his retirement in 1992. He served as director of Fairfield Line, formerly known as Fairfield Glove Company.

Mr. Williamson served eight years on the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors beginning in 1961, including four years as president. He had been president and treasurer of Fairfield Community Fund and president of Fairfield Rotary and Fairfield Manufacturers Association. In addition, he had been a director of Iowa Manufacturers Association and served on the boards of directors of Work Glove Manufacturers Association, Fairfield Golf & Country Club and Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of First Christian Church and served on the church board for more than 31 years.

Survivors include three children, Kate Nooe and husband Ike of Camden, S.C., Susan Williamson of Fairfield and Sam Williamson and wife Cheryl of Ventura, Calif.; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and special friend Betty Foody.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry B. Williamson; and one sister, Amy Medina.
