Carolyn GASKELL of Douds died this morning, Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Carolyn J. GASKELL

DOUDS - Carolyn J. GASKELL, 74, of Douds died Friday morning December 18, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.

Carolyn's body has been cremated. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday December 20, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. A celebration of life service will be at a later date with burial of cremains in Pittsburg Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Memorials to Pittsburg Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 16014 Hwy. 16, Douds, IA 52551.

She was born April 17, 1941 at Mt. Zion to Thomas and Madeline SLUTTS McCARTY and married Louis K. BARROW. They divorced. She married James E. GASKELL April 18, 1964. He died April 27, 1985.

Carolyn grew up in Mt. Zion, graduated from Keosauqua High School and was a homemaker. She lived in Van Buren County, the past several years in Douds.

Surviving are three daughters, Debra PHIPPS (Carl) of Ottumwa, Joanna HECKETHORN (JoeJoe) of Stockport and April GENTRY (James) of Douds, two sons, Roy BARROW (Gianna) of Bonaparte and Timothy GASKELL (Robin) of Keosauqua, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers, Les McCARTY (Betty) of Pittsburg, Gary McCARTY of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Donnie McCARTY of Monroe, LA, a sister, Audrey McCARTY of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Jim, Art and Dick McCARTY and two sisters, Verna COLEMAN and LaVena DUNCAN.
