Betty Ruth WYSE FARRIER was born July 17, 1925, near Wayland, IA to Arthur John and Lillian Ann (WEAVER) WYSE. She attended country school and graduated from Wayland High School. She attended and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mennonite School of Nursing in Bloomington, IL. She married Howard E. HARRIS in the summer of 1949. They had 3 children: Dorothy Ann, Brenda Kay, and Celesta Louise. Later they were divorced. She married Kenneth D. FARRIER, a widower, in Dec of 1961. He had 3 children: Peggy Jo, Douglas Duane, and Bradley Bryan. Betty's nursing career started at Washington County Hospital. She then worked at Jefferson County Hospital where she was head (charge) Nurse of the Medical and Surgical floor for 10 years. She then went to the Fairfield Clinic and was the Head Nurse for 30 years. Later, she did part-time school nursing for Washington Community Schools. She retired from nursing in Dec 1990. She loved to help her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, garage hop, antique shop, quilt and refinish antique furniture and trunks. Ken and Betty loved to dance and spent many Saturday nights dancing till (sic) dawn. She was the head of the Brighton United Church prayer chain for over 10 years. Betty was a member of PEO Chapter AQ and served in several officer positions.
Surviving are one son Bradley (Liesl) FARRIER of Centennial, CO and four daughters: Celesta (Pete) BRENDEL of Tiffin, IA, Peggy BAUMERT of Brighton, IA, Brenda RAGEN of Hedrick, IA, and Dorothy CARROTHERS of Brighton, IA. She has 11 grandchildren: Charles A WIKOFF of New London, Billie (Tim) HALL of Des Moines, Bradley (Laura) LISK of Fairfield, Bryan BAUMERT of Washington, Nathan BAUMERT of Des Moines, Emily BAUMERT of Washington, Ian (Angie) SMITH and Cody (Michelle) SMITH of Washington, Julian (Clara) BRENDEL serving in Korea, Maria and Gabriel FARRIER of Centennial, CO. 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Ken) of 54 years, a son, Doug, and one brother, Roger WYSE.
Betty crossed over Jordan at the grand age of 90 in her home in Brighton, IA. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother; the glue that held us together. She was a great friend and loved by many. We will miss her dearly while holding her in our memories forever.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec 18, 2015 from 2 PM with family present from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Brighton United Church located at 102 South Mechanic Street, Brighton. There will be a Celebration of Life (11:30 AM) on Saturday, Dec 19, 2015 at the Brighton United Church following a morning (10 AM) grave side service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, IA. Pastor Rick Zickefoose will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests general memorials should be left at the church or mailed to the family at 102 N. Benton Street, Brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home is assisting the family.
