Robert E. DOWD

Robert E DOWD passed away at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer on December 2nd 2015 in Broomfield, Co.

Robert (Bob) was born November 11th 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Donald H. and Inez (SMITH) DOWD. He grew up in Birmingham Iowa and graduated from Stockport Iowa High School with the class of 1963. He attended college at Kirksville, Missouri. He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 in Germany during Vietnam and attained the rank of E5. He retired in 2011 from Wal-Mart Transportation in Loveland Colorado.

He was an avid sports fan. The Iowa Hawkeyes and Denver Broncos were his favorite teams, and he followed NASCAR faithfully.

Bob married Susan MEISTER on September 3rd 1972 in Keokuk Iowa. He is survived by his wife, their daughters, Erin DOWD (Brian Strawn), Molly PICKETT (Brandon PICKETT) and granddaughter Amelia Christine PICKETT. He is also survived by his sister, Maryann COOK of Fairfield Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard DOWD, and infant grandson Benjamin Sloan PICKETT.

Arrangements have been made with Rundus Funeral Home (www.rundus.com) in Broomfield Colorado. No services are planned in Colorado at this time. A gathering is anticipated in the Spring of 2016 in Birmingham Iowa; family and friends are welcome to attend.
